What is actually checked
Amazon.de has validated seller listings against the public packaging register since 1 July 2022, deactivating listings that fail. The check runs against the public register, so it sees the same entry anyone else can search, including the brand names and the tax number recorded there.
That is why the register entry has to match the selling account. A brand present on your packaging but absent from the register, or a tax number that differs between the register, the system contract and the seller account, is a common cause of a failed validation that looks mysterious from inside the account.
What changed in August 2026
Since 12 August 2026 online platforms must additionally obtain a self-certification from sellers covering the authorised-representative designation, and the register's query interface returns not only whether a producer is registered but also whether the representative obligation is met.
The penalty tier aimed at marketplaces and fulfilment providers applies only from 12 February 2027, so claims that platforms face six-figure German fines today are wrong. The verification duty is live; the German penalty for breaching it is not yet.
Nobody registers for you here
Amazon operates pay-on-behalf arrangements for packaging in some countries. No such arrangement for German packaging has been identified, and that is consistent with a registration the law makes strictly personal. A marketplace cannot perform it any more than we can.
Confirm the current position in your own seller account rather than trusting a summary, ours included. We do not publish Amazon fees, field names, deadlines or blocking behaviour without dated evidence from a live account.
Conclusion
Scope comes before a form. Connect the legal entity, its German establishment, the product, the sales channel and the EPR stream to the rule that actually applies.
Evidence must remain traceable. Keep source data, versions, approvals, filings, receipts and every record issued by an external body.
Third-party decisions are never guaranteed. The packaging register, the central agency, the dual systems and the marketplaces control their own procedures, timing and decisions.
